Studies have shown how important it is for human beings to have a sense of belonging, to have a community that they feel like they're a part of. This makes sense because from the very beginning, God designed us for relationships. We're supposed to have connections with others; we're supposed to have a sense of community with each other, especially those of us who are followers of Jesus. But this need for connection goes beyond just an innate desire to have relationships with others. We are actually challenged by God to have connections, not just with Him, but with each other. It's not just a recommendation; it's a calling.
There's a difference between having an assignment or a job description and having a calling. When I feel called to do something, I have a sense of urgency; there is something I feel compelled to do. I perceive a greater purpose and mission to whatever it is I feel called to do. Join us the next few weeks at Flagstone as we explore what it's like to be called by God for a specific purpose and what that calling should lead us to accomplish.

Our bodies are made up of a lot of parts, and each one of those parts has a specific function. When my body and all of its parts function the way they're supposed to, I am usually more active and healthy and productive. Several times in scripture God uses "the body" to give us a snapshot of how the church can be active and healthy and productive in this world. So what is my particular "body part"? And how can my "part" help the church make a difference in my community?
Throughout the Bible there are various metaphors and illustrations used to describe the church. These "snapshots" give us a deeper understanding of how we connect to God and to each other and what our purpose is in this world. We are going to take a closer look at some of these descriptions in scripture so that we can develop a clearer picture of our God and His relationship with His church.
