First Pray, Then Act

Sometimes God puts something on our hearts – a change we need to make, an opportunity to serve, or a step of faith He’s calling us to take. And usually our first instinct is to make a plan and get to work. But there’s a crucial step we can’t afford to skip: prayer. We need to talk to God, because prayer gives us the strength to follow His lead and the faith to step into the unknown. So what does it look like to pray before I act?

Scripture References: Nehemiah 4:4, Nehemiah 2:4-5, Nehemiah 1:11, Nehemiah 1:4, Nehemiah 1:5, Nehemiah 6:9

Sometimes the next step isn't obvious. We sense God stirring something in our hearts—a burden we can't ignore—but we're not always sure what to do with it. Whether it's serving others, meeting a need in our community, or making a difference in our church, God often begins with a burden before He reveals the plan. Join us at Flagstone for our new series, Do Something: From Burden to Action, as we follow the story of Nehemiah and discover how God used an ordinary man with an extraordinary burden to accomplish something significant. Along the way, we'll see that God is still calling His people to step out in faith and take action today.

No Excuses with My Community

The mission of the Flagstone church is to reach out, connect, and serve. That "reaching out" part is difficult sometimes though. I may not know how to reach out, how to initiate a conversation, how to help. So instead of trying to reach out when the opportunity arises, I simply make an excuse for why I'm not able to. So how do I get out of that habit? How do I get better at helping people in my community when I see their needs on display?

Scripture References: 1 Peter 3:15, Galatians 5:22-23, John 15:5, 2 Corinthians 4:7, Mark 6:35-37, Acts 8:29-30, Acts 4:31, Acts 4:29-30

From Series: "No Excuses"

Most of us know the frustration of setting goals for ourselves in different aspects of our lives and then failing to stay committed to achieving those goals. Often we find a variety of excuses to justify why we fall short of what we set out to accomplish. What if, instead of making excuses, I chose to follow through on the things I know I need to do? What would happen if I kept trying again instead of giving up when things got tough? As I begin a new year, it may be time to recognize the things in my life that need to be different, and it may be time for me to fully commit to those changes - no excuses!
