Overflowing with Hope

Regardless of the holiday season, HOPE can sometimes be in short supply. We may have placed our greatest hopes in finite things that have failed us, or been let down by someone or something in our lives that promised satisfaction. When Paul tells us in Romans 15:13 that we can have hope abundantly along with joy and peace, he wasn't kidding. Because we place our hope in someONE that is unshakable, always satisfying our deepest needs. Jesus Christ himself. Let's see how Paul lays out his argument for hope in Romans.

This is the time of year that many of us are reminded of all the different ways God has blessed us. But God’s expectation in sharing these blessings is not just for us to enjoy them ourselves but to use those gifts to benefit others. This month at Flagstone we’re going to spend time together thanking God for all He’s done and also discovering ways we can pour the blessings He has given us into the lives of others.

The Model Peacemaker

God calls us as Christians to be "peacemakers," to be people who generate and produce peace. As we try to understand what it means to be a peacemaker, we need to first look at how Jesus not only provided peace to His followers, but how He provides it to us as well. And I can't share something I don't have, so before I become a peacemaker, I need to honestly ask myself, "Am I experiencing God's peace in my own life?"

From Series: "Peacemakers"

We are living in a very confrontational time in our culture. Social media, podcasts, news outlets, and sometimes even personal conversations seem to flood us with polarizing differences of opinion on a variety of topics. Additionally, we are urged to not only pick a side but to attack or at least argue with anyone proposing a different point of view. But winning arguments and criticizing people who think or act differently than us is really the exact opposite of what Jesus calls us to do. Jesus not only came into this world to bring peace but to challenge His followers to become peacemakers. For the next several weeks at Flagstone, we are going to discover together what it means to be a peacemaker and how we can be source of peace in a world seemingly bent on conflict.
