Purchasing Peace

There are countless things that bring stress and anxiety into our lives—economic uncertainty, job pressures, marriage struggles, family conflict, war, racism, environmental concerns—the list goes on. How do we relieve the deep sense of worry so many of us feel? The world tells us peace can be purchased: invest in this, buy that, accumulate more, and your problems will fade away. But is peace really something we can buy? What does Scripture say about how we can truly experience and live in lasting peace?

From Series: "Add to Cart"

We live in a consuming culture, where the latest tech, fashion, or gadget is always just a click away. But what if our desire to fill our carts is really a desire to fill something deeper in our lives? For the next several weeks the Flagstone family will take an honest look at our craving for “stuff” and discover how God provides what the things in our carts never can.

The Model Peacemaker

God calls us as Christians to be "peacemakers," to be people who generate and produce peace. As we try to understand what it means to be a peacemaker, we need to first look at how Jesus not only provided peace to His followers, but how He provides it to us as well. And I can't share something I don't have, so before I become a peacemaker, I need to honestly ask myself, "Am I experiencing God's peace in my own life?"

Scripture References: Colossians 12:19-20, Luke 7:50, Luke 2:13-14, Philippians 4:7, Matthew 5:9, Romans 12:18, Ephesians 2:14

From Series: "Peacemakers"

We are living in a very confrontational time in our culture. Social media, podcasts, news outlets, and sometimes even personal conversations seem to flood us with polarizing differences of opinion on a variety of topics. Additionally, we are urged to not only pick a side but to attack or at least argue with anyone proposing a different point of view. But winning arguments and criticizing people who think or act differently than us is really the exact opposite of what Jesus calls us to do. Jesus not only came into this world to bring peace but to challenge His followers to become peacemakers. For the next several weeks at Flagstone, we are going to discover together what it means to be a peacemaker and how we can be source of peace in a world seemingly bent on conflict.
