Do You See This Woman?

From scrolling through social media to binge-watching the newest shows to catching up on highlights of our favorite sports teams to having conversations with family members, friends, and coworkers, we have a lot of things that battle for our focus and attention on a daily basis. Our vision can become so fixed on a variety of different things that we might even miss seeing the things that really matter. Jesus once asked a question to someone who, in that moment, was focused on the wrong thing. It's a question that still demands an answer from us today.

From Series: "Exploring the Questions of Jesus"

During His ministry, Jesus was asked a lot of questions: "Why do you say the things you do?" "Can you heal this person?" "What do you think about (insert hot topic here)?" But Jesus also asked a lot of questions, questions that challenged people to take an honest look at their actions, their motives, even their faith. And those questions that Jesus asked hundreds of years ago are still relevant questions for us today. For the next few weeks at Flagstone we are going to discover a deeper understanding of God (and hopefully a deeper understanding of ourselves) as we wrestle with some of the questions Jesus asked.

Great Faith Expectations

God promises to bless His followers, right? That's part of being a child of God - receiving His love and His grace, but also His blessings and His protection. If I believe that to be true, then it becomes very easy for me to expect that I'll never have hardships, nothing will ever go wrong, and God will keep bad things from happening to me. But that's not the reality, is it? What happens to my faith when I experience difficulties I never expected? And how do I continue to trust in God when I'm battling through negative circumstances?

Scripture References: Isaiah 43:2, John 10:10, Romans 8:28, Hebrews 13:5, Psalms 5:6, Psalms 13:1

From Series: "Great Expectations"

Many of us have an ideal picture in mind of how a certain aspect of our lives will turn out. We have a vision of what our marriage will be like, how much we'll enjoy our career, or how healthy our relationships will be. What happens when my picture-perfect expectation doesn't match my reality? How do I deal with it when my plans fall short? Can I adopt a realistic, yet still great, expectation?
