Christmas time has the potential to give us lots of surprising moments. We might receive a gift we didn‘t expect, the weather can change on us almost instantly, a relative may show up unexpectedly at a family gathering. When we look at the story of the birth of Jesus, we see lots of unexpected moments as well. At Flagstone this Christmas, we are going to discover (or re-discover) some of the surprises surrounding the arrival of a newborn baby in the small town of Bethlehem.

Detoxing My Soul

The need to go through some kind of physical detox is rarely because of one incident. More often a detox becomes necessary because little by little I have allowed toxins to pollute my body and corrupt my physical health. In the same way the need to detox my spiritual self is rarely because of one incident. More often it is because little by little I have allowed sin or guilt or habits or other things to pollute my soul and corrupt my relationship with God. How do I know if my soul needs to be cleaned out? And what does a soul detox look like?

Scripture References: 1 Peter 2:11, 1 Peter 1:9, 1 John 5:17, Isaiah 59:1-2, Mark 8:36, Matthew 11:28-29, Matthew 10:28, Psalms 42:5, Mark 12:30

From Series: "Detox"

Sometimes we need a physical detox – a cleaning out of toxins and contaminants that are causing us to be physically unhealthy. Many of us may also find ourselves in need of a “spiritual detox.” We’ve allowed habits or addictions or attitudes or relationships to contaminate our heart and pollute our relationship with God. What does a spiritual detox look like? How do I identify the things that might be poisoning my soul? And how do I begin to actively clean out the things that are corrupting my faith and corroding my connection with God?
