Christmas time has the potential to give us lots of surprising moments. We might receive a gift we didn‘t expect, the weather can change on us almost instantly, a relative may show up unexpectedly at a family gathering. When we look at the story of the birth of Jesus, we see lots of unexpected moments as well. At Flagstone this Christmas, we are going to discover (or re-discover) some of the surprises surrounding the arrival of a newborn baby in the small town of Bethlehem.

Bringing Peace Into My Politics
There are many who believe that the United States is more divided politically than at any other time in our history. Competing political viewpoints on a variety of topics have fractured friendships and families and even churches. In the middle of such a volatile political climate, can the church really be a source of peace in our communities? As our country heads to the polls this Tuesday, how can Christians actively bring a sense of God's peace into our hostile political landscape?

We are living in a very confrontational time in our culture. Social media, podcasts, news outlets, and sometimes even personal conversations seem to flood us with polarizing differences of opinion on a variety of topics. Additionally, we are urged to not only pick a side but to attack or at least argue with anyone proposing a different point of view. But winning arguments and criticizing people who think or act differently than us is really the exact opposite of what Jesus calls us to do. Jesus not only came into this world to bring peace but to challenge His followers to become peacemakers. For the next several weeks at Flagstone, we are going to discover together what it means to be a peacemaker and how we can be source of peace in a world seemingly bent on conflict.
